Below is a list of the participating agencies in the Miami-Dade County Pro Bono Project.

- work with the Innocence Project on cases concerning the right of access to evidence for post-conviction DNA testing and the actual innocence defense
- challenging the United States Department of Agriculture's compliance with the National Environmental Policy Act and an international treaty in establishing rules concerning protection from invasive species, both on behalf of the Natural Resources Defense Council
- representation of a class of Medicaid enrolled children in Florida seeking a mandatory injunction to force the State to comply with federal Medicaid mandates regarding the provision of care
- family law matters in conjunction with InMotion in New York City
- various projects for the Northern Westchester Women's Shelter in Armonk, NY
- representing a small business owner in trademark infringement litigation against a major California resort
Pro bono matters are staffed by a combination of partners and associates who choose to volunteer their time to provide these important services. As a matter of philosophy, we take a pro bono approach to pro bono work. Therefore, the Firm does not impose pro bono requirements on our lawyers. Instead, we encourage them to take on pro bono matters when they want and for whom they want; we have no ideological litmus tests.
While our pro bono committee is available to facilitate work for the public good by our lawyers, at the end of the day, we rely on our lawyers' individual initiative and interests for the shape it takes.

For more than 20 years, attorney Brenton N. Ver Ploeg practiced insurance litigation at Miami's oldest law firm, mainly representing insurance companies. In 1995, he founded this firm, which is dedicated solely to representing policyholders. Four years later, he was joined in the practice by attorney R. Hugh Lumpkin, who had extensive experience in complex commercial litigation, insurance coverage and appellate representation.
